Domaine Henri Gouges
The Henri GOUGES domain was established in Nuits Saint Georges at the very beginning of this century. Founded by Henri Gouges, it was subsequently developed by his two sons, Michel and Marcel. For the last few years, Pierre and Christian, the grandsons, have carried on the traditions of the estate. Pierre has a passionate interest in the care of the vines; he regulates the yield while obtaining the optimum grape quality. By grassing over some of the vineyard and by numerous trials in conjunction with official bodies he has been able to integrate a new type of culture, the respect of the environment and a contribution to the best expression of the terroir in the wines. Christian blends modernity in the winery with traditional vinification. Not only does he have the worry of monitoring, harvest limits and qualitychecking (sorting the grapes during the harvest ), but he also paysparticular attention to the maturing of the wine in barrels. Uncompromising about quality and respectful of the typicity of the differentvintages, he takes care of the bottling after 18 months ageing in oakbarrels, using a maximum of 20 % new oak in the final blending (assemblage). Over three generations, the Henri Gouges domain has had the honour of appearing on many of the most respected tables in France and across the world. Numerous professionals in the wine-making fraternity also put their trust in this domain. Visit the Domaine Henri Gouges website.

Little soil, but outcropping rocks, that is what most marks the character of this parcel of one hectare called the Vaucrains. Situated on a slope top, on calcareous or clay-calcareous soil, it gives wines that are structured at an early age, later developing smoked, truffle and woody aromas - this ... more

Pitch-black color. Kahlua on the nose and on the palate. Quite round with the biggest tannins of all the wines at the domaine. It has some orange coffee, too, a bit of Grand Marnier. Very chewy on the finish, a palate-stainer. more
