Chapoutier

Colour : Brilliant and golden. Nose : Mineral, white fleshed fruits, dried apricot, slight musk scent. Mouth : Well-balanced, fruity, apple compote, acidity contributing to a pleasantly fresh taste. An agreeable vanilla touch to woody notes. Matching food with wine: Foie gras, crayfish, lobster, fish, poultry in sauces, white meats, goat's cheese, blue cheese, spicy dishes and curry.

Wine Advocate

A wine that tastes akin to liquid rocks as well as white currants and quince is the light golden 2004 Ermitage Cuvee de l’Oree. This is a fabulous wine, with blockbuster intensity and richness. This is the kind of wine that may last 50-100 years, but of course most readers will opt for earlier consumption.

Score: 99. —Robert Parker, April 2007.

Wine Enthusiast

Chapoutier’s top white in 2004 is this knockout cuvée parcellaire he calls De L’Orée. Aromas of truffles and honey burst from the glass, while the flavors lean toward peaches and toasted nuts. It’s full-bodied and undoubtedly high in alcohol, but there’s no trace of heat, and while it’s broad and mouthfilling because of its size, it still finishes fresh and minerally.

Score: 96. —Joe Czerwinski, September 01, 2007.

Wine Spectator

This just gushes with gorgeous, creamy layers of mango, papaya, green plum, apricot and glazed tangerine, yet never gets heady or overripe, thanks to a buried spine of mineral and citrus peel. The long, powerful finish has a waxy feel, with a lingering floral note. A gorgeous combination of power and finesse. Drink now through 2020. 550 cases made.

Score: 96. —James Molesworth, August 31, 2007.
