From a vineyard just adjacent to the Oakville estate comes this wonderfully earth-scented wine. Deep and brooding, the aromas bring to mind a walk through a forest. Now a whiff of bay laurel, then pine cone and a rich, mulchy humus, and hovering over all are ripe blackberries and oodles of caramelized new oak. Much more open at this point in its life than the ’02, but should live for many years.

Wine Advocate
The most tannic, broodingly backward, and muscular of the single vineyard cuvees is the dense ruby/purple-colored 2003 Vecina Proprietary Red. This vineyard is situated close to the Harlan Estate site, and the Vecina exhibits some of that scorched earth component in its backward personality. The tannins are slightly more rustic in this concentrated effort. It comes across like a hypothetical blend of top northern Medoc and Graves wines. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2030+.

Screw Cap
Wines sealed with a screw cap as opposed to a cork, which experts report protects and preserves wine more effectively than does a cork, while also eliminating the possibility of cork taint.
No Sulfites
All wines naturally contain some sulfites, however wines that contain less than 10 parts per million sulfites are not required to include "Contains Sulfites" on their labels.

I still believe it is the simplest way to rate a wine, with its origins from grade school in the United States. A wine that I rate 90 points or more is outstanding (A), and worth buying. If I rate a wine 95 points or more (A+), it is a must buy.
