Champoux wines always have excellent body. This year follows that history. This wine has a complex nose as well as depth of fruit. The grapes for this wine were fully ripe but have enough acidity to preserve freshness. The tannins are very refined and soft.

Wine Enthusiast

This wine uses the same Merlot and Cabernet Franc as the superpremium Sorella (due out in the spring), but here the Cab is a younger Champoux block, planted in 1990. Though a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Cabernet Franc, 15% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot, the wine expresses itself with a captivating purity. The fruit almost seems to shine with glistening flavors of berries. It's a perfectly balanced and beautifully integrated mix of spicy herb, primary fruits, natural acids and compelling density.

Score: 94. —Paul Gregutt, April 01, 2006.

Wine Advocate

Camarda's 2003 Champoux Vineyard, from vines that average 23 years old (ancient by this state's standards), is a blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Cabernet Franc, 15% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot. Violets, blackberries, dark cherries, and red fruits are found in this medium to full-bodied wine's aromatics. On the palate, it displays sage-tinged red cherries, blackberries, cassis, and hints of brambleberries as well as loads of ripe, structure-giving tannin. This harmonious, concentrated offering should be drunk between 2008 and 2022.

Score: 93. —Pierre Rovani, April 2006.

Wine Spectator

Lithe and beautifully focused, with a laser beam of blackberry and currant fruit cutting through the firm tannins and flashes of sage, roasted red pepper and peppery spice. The finish sails on nicely. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2009 through 2015.

Score: 92. —Harvey Steiman, 2007.
