Alder
nother huge wine - almost black in the glass, with sparkles of ruby as it is swirled. Aromas of black fruit - blackberries and blackcurrants, maybe some red plums - are very apparent and there's a hint of fennel seed in there. The flavors confirm this, and also reveal the well balanced oak and fruit tannins - there's a hint of cedar on the long, elegant finish. Very definitely a wine to serve with food.
Wine Advocate
Potentially more complex and delineated than the Grenache, the deep purple-hued 2003 Syrah Alisos Vineyard boasts a rich, sumptuous bouquet of chocolate-infused cassis along with hints of wood and underbrush. With superb fruit on the attack, impressive opulence, and a long finish, it can be drunk now and over the next 5-6 years.
